House Bill 893 threatens Florida's lien law by removing lien rights for subs and suppliers if owners pay contractors. This risks stricter credit terms, upfront payments, and slower construction. Act now to oppose this harmful change and protect the industry!
We all rely upon Florida’s well-developed lien law. While not perfect, it represents a well-thought-out compromise between owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. This is now in serious jeopardy.

House Bill 893 sponsored by Rep. Overdorf proposes structural changes to the lien law, including prohibiting liens of subs and suppliers if the owner pays the contractor. This change will strip lien rights from subs and suppliers. The trickledown impact of this change will cause subs and suppliers to extend less credit and demand upfront payment thereby slowing construction. You can read the full bill here.
Take 10 seconds to help our industry. Attached and below are two QR codes that will autogenerate an email to Chair Koster and Representative Overdorf (or simply click below to generate the email). Please send an email to both, or even better, also call their office (Toby Overdorf - (850) 717-5085; Traci Koster - (850) 717-5066) to oppose the bill. With everyone’s help, we can maintain the current, well-balanced, and strong lien law we all rely upon.
